Dewberry Cobbler

Granny would freeze the berries and make jelly and jam with them also. She always made the best dewberry cobbler I ever tasted. I love it while it’s still warm with ice cream on top. Here is her recipe:

Put 2 to 3 cups berries, 1 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 1/2 cup water and a tablespoon of butter in a pot and just barely bring to a boil for about 5 minutes. Pour into a 8-1/4 x 1-3/4 inch round ovenware cake/casserole dish.
Sift together 1 cup all purpose flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in 1/4 cup butter till the mixture is coarse. Mix 1/4 milk and 1 slightly beaten egg and add to dry ingredients. Stir just enough to moisten. Drop by spoonfuls on to the hot fruit. Sprinkle with a little more sugar. Bake in a 400
degree oven for about 20-25 minutes….till the topping is brown and the berries are bubbling.
